How venues are celebrating World Chocolate Day

Written by Jul 6, 2025Hospitality Magazine

World Chocolate Day is on Monday 7 July, and it’s the perfect occasion for the country’s pastry chefs and baristas to flex their skills in the decadent landscape of sweet treats. Patisseries, restaurants, and cafes across the country are serving up extravagant desserts and drinks with chocolate at their heart – and we’ve rounded up some of the best among them.

Black Star Pastry

The iconic patisserie has released its most indulgent chocolate creation yet: the Chocolate Oasis Cake. Almond joconde sponge soaked in date syrup is met with a layer of crunchy pistachio and kataifi (Middle Eastern string pastry), dark chocolate ganache, buttercream, and a glossy, hand-painted milk chocolate glaze. Available until Saturday 20 July at all Black Star Pastry locations.

Cannoleria

334 Lygon St, Carlton

A new winter ‘Cioccolata Calda’ (hot chocolate) menu is now available at Melbourne’s Cannoleria, featuring a selection of rich and steamy Sicilian hot chocolates. The limited-time menu includes dark chocolate and pistachio or white chocolate varieties – with the option of a ricotta-lined cup.

Ruben’s Deli

978 High St, Armadale

Ruben’s Deli has a new menu thanks to new Head Chef Tomasz Dul (Baker Blue, The Builder’s Arms). The restaurant’s cinnamon babka scrolls are now available in a seasonal chocolate pistachio flavour, and they’re also serving up a decadent babka-topped hot chocolate.

Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge

4038 Cradle Mountain Road, Cradle Mountain

Inspired by its alpine setting, the lodge has a new menu with four handcrafted chocolate blends available for winter. Among them are ‘The Aura Glow’, with creamy white chocolate and rose and ‘The Cradle Campfire’, which boldly blends chilli dark chocolate and cinnamon. For an extra treat, each blend can be enhanced with a curated spirit.

YTB

567 Collins St, Melbourne

If you head into YTB for high tea, the chocolate cake is a standout among the selection of sweet treats. If that’s not enough to satiate your sweet tooth, there are also yuzu macarons, lotus paste mochi, and black sesame choux.
