Rockhampton’s renowned Gracemere Hotel has been sold to the CQ Hotel Group, ushering in a new chapter for one of Central Queensland’s most recognisable pubs.
The sale marks the O’Hara Group’s exit from Queensland, following its June 2025 sale of the Parkhurst Tavern, about 10km north of Rockhampton City.
O’Hara Group has since turned its attention to New South Wales, where it has two new hotel acquisitions due to settle in the coming weeks.
The CQ Hotel Group, which owns and operates ten Queensland hotels, described the purchase as a natural fit for its regional portfolio.
CQ Hotel Group owner, Anthony Fargus, said the company continues to have a long-term interest in investing in Central Queensland.
“The Gracemere was a logical purchase, enabling us to extend our portfolio and acquire an asset that has shown consistent historical trade while being at the forefront and a social hub of the local community,” Fargus said.
“We will look to continue the heritage of the venue, servicing the local community with traditional country hospitality.”
HTL Property managing director, Andrew Jolliffe, assisted in the sale and said there is strong demand for regional hospitality assets.
“Several hundred million dollars’ worth of cross-border deals have been consummated already this year,” he said.
“[It] points to a confluence of market depth and asset class confidence.”
Rockhampton is also becoming a popular tourist location and stopping point for those travelling around Queensland. Traditionally a famous agriculture centre, it has been tagged as a potential location as a host venue for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
