The Alps Wine Bar returns with amplified food offering and revamped courtyard

Prahran’s petite wine bar inspired by rifugios – small mountain huts in Italy’s Dolomites – is back after a brief stint of closure and transformation.

Original owners Diggin’ In The Cellars (DITC) has revamped The Alps’ food offering to be more substantial and winter-proofed the courtyard.

DITC is the wine-forward hospitality group also behind Toorak Cellars, Milton, The Moon, and Richmond’s hatted restaurant Clover.

Miller “Mimmo” Cowie has joined as the team’s new head chef, working alongside Co-Owner and Clover Executive Chef Charley Snadden-Wilson to develop a Romana-style pizza menu.

Romana Pizza is known for its thin base with sauce that reaches to the edges. “This style of pizza is so well fitted to a wine bar, it’s much finer than other styles of pizza and doesn’t sit heavy in your gut, yet still satisfies your cravings,” says Cowie.

The menu will feature the likes of meatballs and pizzas with gruyere cream. Menu items will rotate with the seasons, alongside crowd-favourite fixtures and weekly specials.

The wine bar’s 400 wine list remains central to The Alps’ offering, with wines ranging from approachable to premium. “From the avant-garde and natural young trailbreakers to the old masters of the classic regions, we pride ourselves on being for everyone,” says Cooper.

DITC has added a retractable waterproof awning and an abundance of awnings to the courtyard, making it a year-round space.

A fireside private dining space for up to 10 people is also available in “The Cabin”.

The Alps is open all week: Monday to Wednesday 3-10pm, Thursday and Friday 3-11pm, Saturday 1-11pm, and Sunday 1-9pm.
