Wyong Leagues Group has entered a new 20-year lease agreement with the NSW government to further secure the future of its Budgewoi Soccer Club.
According to the group, the agreement comes following several years of negotiations between the state government and the group, given the club and grounds sit on Crown land.
“As one of our first amalgamations, Budgewoi Soccer Club has always been a very important part of our group. It is therefore really pleasing that with the long-term future of the venue now settled, we can focus on a more expansive vision in the planning and development of the club,” Wyong Leagues Group CEO Ben Coghlan said.
As the first port of call, the group will invest $300,000 to upgrade the drainage of the playing surfaces at its three soccer fields which will commence in November. This will be in addition to several other improvements that will be made, including the installation of a new digital scoreboard on the main field, and upgrading the club’s beer garden area with a large outdoor LED screen and additional heating.
The group said the extensive improvements will be a “tremendous result” for both the licensed club, its members, and the soccer players that use the facilities, particularly given that some soccer fields have been unplayable at times for periods over the years.
“Budgewoi FC is an institution within the Central Coast sporting community and this investment by Wyong Leagues Group further demonstrates their clear commitment to a bright future for not only our Club’s players, officials and volunteers but also those from visiting teams and the football community on the Coast,” Budgewoi FC First Grade Manager stated.
