The Australian Distillers Association NSW and ACT has welcomed experienced spirits industry communicator, Nigel Weisbaum, to the newly created role of Industry Development Officer.
As well as championing brands such Archie Rose, West Winds Gin and Old Youngs, Weisbaum has had a long involvement with the Australian Distillers Association and is a passionate advocate of Australia’s craft drinks industry.
Speaking to The Shout about the new role, Weisbaum said: “This is all about bringing everyone together, building up the membership and helping the people who have been volunteering but also have their own businesses to run.
“We’ve now got the opportunity to bring together all the safety and compliance training courses that have been rolled out and drive those to the NSW membership. But also bringing everyone together under one communication so that we’re all learning the same, growing the same and everyone is benefitting.”
Australian Distillers CEO Paul McLeay added: “This moment has been a long time coming, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome someone of Nigel’s calibre to this role. As many of you know, the craft spirits industry in NSW and ACT is growing, but with growth comes challenges—advocacy, partnerships, events, and initiatives don’t organise themselves. That’s where Nigel comes in.
“Nigel will be working with the NSW | ACT Committee two days a week to drive key projects, coordinate events, and make sure [member] voices are heard where it matters most. He’ll also help us secure much-needed funding to keep the momentum going for all of us.”
Earlier this week the association announced that early bird tickets were now available for its 2025 Conference, which will take place in April at The Star, Broadbeach in Queensland.
