Beach Hotel Byron Bay has officially opened its new beachside bar, The Shack, positioned directly across from Byron Bay’s Main Beach.

Ben Turner, general manager of food, is delighted with the Beach Hotel’s newest outdoor bar and dining space.

“The Shack was designed to embody the laid-back yet sophisticated spirit of Byron Bay. It offers locals and visitors a relaxed space to enjoy a drink or a bite while soaking up the views of Main Beach. By blending contemporary design with beachside vibes, we’ve created a uniquely ‘Beachy’ experience,” he said.

The Beach Hotel comprises both traditional pub offerings as well as a resort. The Shack is an elevated addition to the hotel connecting both components, giving visitors another way to enjoy its hospitality.

“As part of broader upgrades to the Beach Hotel, including a revamped sports bar and refreshed resort spaces, The Shack contributes to a cohesive and vibrant atmosphere that seamlessly connects the pub and resort. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, enjoying the resort’s communal areas, or soaking in the buzz of the pub, these updates reflect our commitment to continuing to make the Beach Hotel a cherished hub for locals and an iconic destination for visitors,” said Turner.

The food offerings at The Shack celebrates the coastal cuisines and hospitality of the region. Turner describes the food and drink menu as “bold” and “carefully curated”.

“The Shack’s menu celebrates bold, fresh flavours with a focus on sharing plates that are designed to tap into memories of beach vacations. Dishes feature global flavours inspired by coastal holiday destinations – from the Mediterranean to parts of Asia, South America and of course, Australia. From salty, baked, raw, fried, to skewered, the menu caters to all tastes – whether you’re in the mood for light bites or a more filling meal,” Turner said. Turner’s personal favourites include the lobster tacos with mango hot sauce and the octopus skewers glazed with gochujang and sesame.

The Shack’s drinks menu offers a range of beers, wines, and classic cocktails such as Pina Coladas, Strawberry Daiquiris and Spicy Margaritas. There are also non-alcoholic options available.

“The drinks menu at The Shack elevates the entire experience centred around a concise but carefully curated cocktail list, selected beers and wines, as well as sophisticated non-alcoholic options.

“With drinks at the heart of The Shack, the food menu was designed for sharing. This encourages our guests to connect and enjoy a shared experience over great food and drinks. Whether it’s with family or friends, The Shack is all about creating memorable moments in a vibrant, welcoming setting.”

Positioned across from one of Byron’s most popular beaches, The Shack welcomes both visitors and locals to pop in straight after the beach.

“The Shack embraces Byron’s relaxed beachside lifestyle with an open, inviting design and its prime location directly across from Main Beach. It’s the perfect spot to drop in straight from the sand,” Turner said. “While it offers an elevated experience compared to other spaces within the pub, The Shack remains approachable and welcoming to everyone. Whether you’re coming from a beach day, exploring the town, or staying at the Beach Hotel Resort, The Shack is a place where all guests can feel at home.”
