Bowden Brewing celebrates the future of sustainable brewing

For National Tree Day, Bowden Brewing is taking part in an initiative to showcase sustainable brewing practices, all while giving back to the local community and environment.

On Sunday 28 July, the brewery will partner with smart refrigeration platform Frigid.Cloud, the City of Charles Sturt Council, EverGreen Gardening and other local organisations for a unique event, raising a glass to a greener future.

The event will be held at Bowden Brewing Plant 3 and visitors can expect to sample a limited-edition release, New World Pale Ale, served exclusively in reusable stainless-steel kegs throughout the day, eliminating the need for single-use cans and other packaging materials.

For each pint sold at the event, a tree will be planted in partnership with Bowden Brewing, EverGreen Gardening and the City of Charles Sturt Council.

Over the course of the day, Bowden Brewing hopes to raise awareness about its commitment to eco-conscious brewing, sharing details about the steps it takes to reduce the impact of the beer production process on the environment.

By using locally-sourced ingredients, including environmentally-friendly Kernza Malt, yeast supplied locally by Fervero, Barossa Valley hops and repurposed bread and pastries from Lost Loaf Bakery, the brewery is able to minimise its carbon footprint.

Energy efficiency is also an important consideration, and by utilising Frigid.Cloud’s innovative cooling system, Bowden Brewing optimises its energy usage across tanks. At the same time, the use of special yeast strains allows the brewery to minimise cooling needs.

Another focus of the brewery is waste minimisation. One example of its efforts in this area is a collaboration with Westside Mushies which sees spent grains used for in-house mushroom tacos, and the remaining substrate repurposed as compost for local gardens.

Bowden Brewing invites locals to raise a glass to a greener future at the brewery site on Sunday 28 July, and celebrate sustainable practices in the brewing industry.
