Capital Brewing throws seventh birthday party

Now approaching its seventh birthday, Capital Brewing Co. will be holding a celebratory party this weekend “for all the local legends who have supported the brewery”.

Kicking off at 11:30am on Sunday 3 November, Capital Brewing is inviting local beer lovers to come down and celebrate the occasion with a special birthday brew and a live music line up curated by local promoter Lucy Sugerman.

Brewed in celebration of Capital’s seven-year anniversary, Marvin Berry is a pastry sour loaded with local blackberry, mulberry and strawberries, which have imparted a purple colour on the beer.

Wade Hurley, Head Brewer, says: “This is the most we have ever fruited a sour and the result is pretty amazing. Pouring a deep purple you are smacked in the face with aromas of sweet blackberry pie backed up with mulberry and strawberries. We put a big dose of lactose in to keep the finished product nice and sweet to balance out the tart berries we threw in.”

Marvin Berry will be available to sample alongside a 20-strong selection of freshly brewed beers, and a number of beer alternatives.

Heading up the entertainment line up is Sydney band Jet City Sports Club, who will be supported by local and interstate artists, including Stella Eve, The Buzzcuts, Groovy Daughter, Jayray and Just Tneek.

“As a born and raised Canberran and lover of local Australian music, nothing gives me greater joy than being involved in local gigs and platforming new artists,” says Sugerman.

“We’ve got an exciting range of genres and vibes on the line-up for the birthday – something for everyone and perfect for a fun Sunday afternoon into night at Capital Brewing Co. Big thanks to Capital for supporting local music and being the best.”

Reflecting on seven years of brewing, the team at Capital Brewing said: “We have been super proud to be a big part in creating an industry that 10 years ago didn’t exist in Canberra – we are now in the top 10 by volume brewers in the country.

“Something locals can be proud of is that our beer is exported and enjoyed by Aussies up and down the East Coast, and we are now looking forward to the ACT Government finally supporting our bid to pour local beer exclusively at ACT Government venues including GIO stadium and Manuka Oval.”
