Chatswood RSL is set to open Yogi’s Sports Bar later this month, bringing a modern take on the classic American sports bar to Sydney’s North Shore. The new venue is part of the club’s push to engage sports fans and attract a younger crowd.

“Building a sports bar aligns with Chatswood RSL Club’s broader strategy by enhancing member experience, attracting a younger demographic, and increasing member and visitor engagement,” Chatswood RSL CEO Andrew Hoschke told Club Management.

The 300-person venue will feature two large LED screens for major events and 25 additional screens spread throughout. There’ll also be a dedicated arcade game area with foosball tables and electronic darts. Plus, a mix of bar seating, high tables, and six bookable private booths, each with their own personal LED screens. For die-hard sport fans, “best seats in the house” seating in front of the massive 173-inch screen will also be available for groups.

Venue manager Tony Rudolph (ex-Canterbury League Club) will oversee the central bar, which will serve craft and classic beers, wines, modern-takes on classic cocktails, while the food menu will boast wood-fired pizzas and American-style bar bites.

“Yogi’s sports bar aims to attract sports fans and social groups, offering them a reason to choose the club over other entertainment venues,” Hoschke said.

“This move acknowledges the growing expectation for clubs to offer a mix of traditional hospitality with modern, varied entertainment experiences that can appeal to both longstanding members and newcomers.”

Hoschke is hopeful that Yogi’s will help lift member numbers, noting that patrons will be required to sign-in.

“By investing in a vibrant venue that caters to sports enthusiasts the club intends to expand its membership base and create a new revenue stream, all while fostering a sense of community,” he said.

“The sports bar is part of a forward-thinking strategy that positions the club to remain relevant and appealing in a competitive local market.”

Chatswood RSL worked with Tully Heard Consulting – the team behind popular Sydney venues like The Greens in North Sydney and Taffy’s at The Oaks in Neutral Bay – to develop Yogi’s concept and strategy.

The design was led by Pony Design Co., with director Natalie Dufton pointing out the fitout draws inspiration from sporting venues, incorporating materials like cage wire, dugouts, grandstand seating, and athletic tracks.
