The inaugural Delta flight between the cities touched down in Brisbane on Friday, 6 December, 2024.

“This one aircraft has bridged two Olympic host cities and strengthened ties between the US and Queensland,” says Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff.

“We are over the moon that Brisbane is now Delta’s second destination in Australia [after Sydney].

“The arrival of one of the world’s largest carriers speaks volumes about this city’s growing prominence as a global destination.”

Brisbane has direct connections to 32 international cities around the world and is Australia’s biggest growth centre to the US.

Additionally, the city is connected to 62 locations in Australia, making Brisbane Airport the nation’s most connected domestic hub.

According to Flight Centre Corporate, Brisbane is leading airline seat capacity into the US, with January 2025 set to deliver 125 per cent of pre-COVID-19-pandemic availability, compared to Sydney’s 83 per cent.

“The growth rate in capacity between Brisbane and North America tells us the need for connectivity between our two nations is at an all-time high,” says Flight Centre Corporate COO Melissa Elf.

“This will be the fourth North American aviation giant to touchdown at Brisbane Airport, and for Delta, this will mark its most extensive schedule to the South Pacific in its history.

“With 31 flights to North America every week, competition has never been so fierce, and it couldn’t be a clearer indicator of the value in connectivity for Australians and our US counterparts.”
