Farmer’s Daughters turns rooftop into wine bar

Alejandro Saravia’s Farmer’s Daughters is embracing the cool season with a new rooftop offering in Melbourne’s CBD.

While Gippsland produce has always been at the heart of the restaurant, the team decided it was time to venture into wine bar territory, converting the venue’s top level into a space that showcases drops from the Gippsland region.

“To keep pace and evolve with Melbourne’s dynamic hospitality industry and enhance our offering, we’ve reimagined our rooftop as a vibrant and cosy wine bar,” says Saravia.

“This new space is a homage to our Gippsland roots, harmoniously blending rustic charm with a touch of Melbourne’s urban sophistication.”

The wine bar has been fitted out with new banquette seating and plant life, with guests invited to drop in or make a reservation in advance.

Group Sommelier Matthew Jensen has put together a wine list with by-the-glass options and bottles from makers including William Downie, Bass Phillip, and Patrick Sullivan as well as boutique producers Carrajung Estate, Fleet Wines, and Lightfoot.

Jensen has compiled the menu according to flavour profiles and characteristics, making it easy for guests to make their selections.

Every wine bar needs complementary snacks, with the Farmer’s Daughters bar menu not to be missed.

Dishes include Amber Creek leg ham with Powlett Reserve feijoa and wholegrain mustard; pasture-raised chicken and celeriac pie with kale and tarragon butter sauce; and lamb loin with squash puree and black currant vinaigrette.

The rooftop is open from 4pm until late Monday to Sunday.
