Moorebank Sports Club – affectionately known as Sporties to locals – has confirmed that it will now begin planning the next stage of the club’s evolution, following its successful purchase of operational land owned by Liverpool City Council.

Although the purchase price was not disclosed, the formal sale agreement for the land, which includes part of the Moorebank Sports and Hammondville Park carpark, was signed by the club and Liverpool City Council.

According to the club, it now paves way for the expansion of its current venue to incorporate meeting and event spaces, more restaurants, family facilities, and additional entertainment offerings, including an indoor sports playground for adults and kids that will feature batting cages, golf bays, and interactive darts.

“This is fantastic news for our members and the community,” Moorebank Sports Club director Alby Taylor.

“The signing of this contract means we can commence planning the future of the Moorebank Sports Club and the Hammondville Park Precinct with the aim to deliver state-of-the-art sporting and social facilities for thousands of families in southwest Sydney.

“Our vision is to provide our members and guests, local businesses, and the wider community, with access to a community lifestyle hub that has all their sport, recreation, or entertainment needs in one place. Today is the start of that vision becoming the reality.”

As part of the deal, the club has committed to ensuring there will always be sufficient parking at Hammondville Park to accommodate for both sporting codes and club patrons.

“The acquired land will allow us to find the much sought after solution to previous parking congestion issues,” the club said.

The good news comes as Sporties recently completed its $6 million renovation that saw the club reconfigure its space so that there was better flow between its indoor and outdoor spaces.
