Supernormal Brisbane opens today

Trader House’s long-awaited Supernormal officially opens its doors today on Brisbane’s Queen Street riverfront.

The launch marks the second location of the Asian-influenced restaurant, which has brought many of its signature dishes to the Sunshine State as well as some bespoke additions.

“It feels like the right evolution for Supernormal,” says Chef and Co-Founder Andrew McConnell.

“Whilst the design sets the two restaurants apart, there is a DNA that runs through them that is grounded in the food, the service, the drinks, and the sense of location.”

The multi-level venue, designed by ACME, spans indoor and outdoor seating with room for up to 150 diners.

The restaurant is split into a main dining room, kitchen, timber bar, riverside terrazzo dining, and upstairs private dining.

Guests can expect influences from Japan, China, Korea, and Hong Kong woven throughout the menu, which is split into appetisers, raw bar and entrees, dumplings, mains, large dishes, and desserts.

Signature dishes include the half crispy duck served with steamed bread and condiments as well as the New England lobster rolls.

There are sure to be many crowd favourites, with Hospitality tipping the ginger and prawn dumplings; whole steamed Coral trout with brown butter and lime dashi; whole mud crab with black pepper sauce; and Szechuan and yellow chilli-poached Moreton Bay bug as the top contenders.

The wine list is varied, with more than 400 bins, with the cocktail menu informed by Tiki influences and seasonal ingredients.

“As a chef it has always been my aim to offer experiences that are highly reflective of their time and place,” says McConnell.

“I am incredibly proud of what we have created – it feels very at home to me in this location and reflects many of the things I know and love about Brisbane – the nuanced hues of the landscape, the warm climate, the abundance of produce grown on the doorstep.”

Supernormal is the second Brisbane venue for Trader House, which launched Bar Miette last month.

Supernormal Brisbane is open seven days from midday until 11pm.
