Sydney icon Golden Century to reopen in time for Lunar New Year

Iconic Sydney venue Golden Century is reopening in time for Lunar New Year at its new Crown Sydney location.

While the restaurant’s grand opening is not until February, bookings are now open from 20 January for keen fans and those wishing to visit during Chinese New Year celebrations.

“Opening Golden Century at such an auspicious time – on the cusp of Lunar New Year – feels like a fitting new beginning for us,” says co-owner Billy Wong.

“We have always put hospitality first and are so excited to open the doors to our beloved guests, including those who are familiar with our food and excited to once again enjoy it, and those who will be trying it for the first time.”

The menu will echo that of the original renowned Sussex Street location, with live seafood tanks, yum cha, and over 80 traditional Cantonese dishes.

The iconic Sydney restaurant faced hardship in 2021 when it entered administration – which the owners credited to the ongoing impact of Covid 19 shutdowns and a lease dispute – and announced closure in line with the end of its lease.

Golden Century’s other venues, XOPP and The Century, continued unaffected until The Century at The Star closed in mid-December 2024.

“We are excited to ring in the New Year, as well as Lunar New Year across our resort, with the opening of Golden Century. Billy, Eric and Linda Wong exemplify graciousness and warmth through their premium hospitality, and we welcome them to the Crown family and Barangaroo precinct,” says Crown Sydney CEO Stanford Le.

The new restaurant will continue three decades of legacy in Barangaroo with harbour views and space to seat 150.
