Andrew McConnell and Jo McGann’s Trader House group has secured the lease of one of Melbourne’s most iconic restaurant sites.
25 Crossley Street has a long history as a decorated culinary location, with the Pellegrini brothers Leo and Vildo opening Tavola Freddo Cantina in 1954 before selling the business to Nino Pangrazio and the late Sisto Malaspina in 1974.
Italian restaurant Becco later opened in 1996, and is currently still operating out of the space until Trader House takes over the lease.
“This is one of the most important heritage restaurant sites in the city,” says McConnell.
“The dining room has a beautiful soul that reflects its history and the incredible hospitality that has been offered here for over 70 years. We are excited to preserve and continue this legacy whilst bringing new energy to the space.”
The group plans to launch a new restaurant concept in late 2025, which will be designed by long-time collaborators ACME.
In the meantime, Morning Market will soon open in the space currently occupied by Becco’s produce store.
The Crossley Street location is the latest venue to join Trader House’s growing portfolio, which has recently seen new additions Supernormal Brisbane and Bar Mietta in Brisbane open in recent weeks.
