Unique American whiskeys reach Australian market

For the month of November, select retailers and bars around the country will showcase unique and new-to-Australia American whiskeys as the Cheers! Spirits from the USA campaign makes its way down under.

Supported by the Distilled Spirits Council of the US (DISCUS) and the US Department of Agriculture, the campaign will introduce new, thoughtfully chosen products to the Australian market, which is the second largest importer of American whiskey.

Joel Matticks, Export Program Manager at DISCUS, says: “Thanksgiving is an iconic American holiday that is celebrated on the third Thursday in November [November 28 this year] and is centred around being grateful for the harvest and other blessings of the past year.  However, given how much Australians love whiskey we thought this was the perfect opportunity to showcase a wider range of US distilled spirits than they may have tried before, and make it possible for whiskey afficionados to purchase hard-to-find bottlings.”

Off-premise partners will showcase a variety of American whiskeys through free tastings, masterclasses and more at P&V Wine + Liquor, based in Sydney with national delivery; Sense of Taste, based in Brisbane with national delivery; and Farrah’s Liquor Collective in Canberra.

Sydneysiders can expect free events from the teams at Sagamore Spirit, High West and Westward Whiskey each Saturday afternoon throughout the month at P&V Wine + Liquor in Newtown, while Sense of Taste will host the teams from Westward Whiskey, Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery, High West, Belle Meade and Sagamore Spirit.

Sense of Taste will have an exclusive Single Barrel Westward Whiskey, the Kentucky Owl range, and hard-to-find bottles from other American producers. In Canberra, Farrah’s Liquor Collective will showcase the likes of Sagamore Rye, Old Forester, Wild Turkey and other leading American whiskeys.

In addition, three of Australia’s leading whiskey bars will offer an extensive range of American whiskeys, allowing consumers to sample hard-to-find bottlings and enjoy them in cocktails. The three venues are Jolene’s in Sydney, Goodwater in Melbourne and The Gresham in Brisbane, each famed for their strong catalogue of American whiskey and whiskey-forward cocktails.
