Following the successful release of the 2018 vintage of The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz through La Place de Bordeaux in September last year, Yalumba has now released the 2019 vintage through the prestigious international distribution network.

Additionally, Yalumba is offering a limited museum release of The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz 2009. The Hill-Smith family is celebrating 175 years of family winemaking this year, and The Octavius reflects the family’s deep connection to the Barossa’s rich winemaking heritage. The wine is crafted from some of the world’s oldest Shiraz vineyards, with vines dating back to 1854, representing Yalumba’s commitment to preserving and celebrating the legacy of the Barossa.

Robert Hill-Smith, fifth-generation family winemaker, is pleased to showcase the 2019 vintage on the global stage.

“We are honoured to be part of La Place de Bordeaux, showcasing The Octavius on a global stage. The 2019 vintage is a true expression of the Barossa’s unique terroir, representing Australia’s winemaking prowess. As we celebrate 175 years of family winemaking, this milestone release reflects our dedication to crafting wines with a sense of place and history,” he said.

The age of the vines that The Octavius is made from reflect Yalumba’s commitment to preserving and celebrating the legacy of the Barossa.

“It’s rare to find vines with the depth of heritage we have in the Barossa, and The Octavius is a tribute to these ancient vineyards and our winemaking tradition. The release of the 2009 vintage from our museum collection allows wine enthusiasts to experience the beauty of a perfectly cellared 15-year-old Barossa Shiraz,” Hill-Smith said.

The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz is a hallmark of Yalumba’s winemaking craft, and tasting notes for the 2019 vintage describe aromas of black fruits with fragrant vanilla and spice, with a balanced and rich body.

By releasing through La Place de Bordeaux, Yalumba reinforces its position in the international fine wine arena, as well as the status of the Barossa wine region more broadly.

Available now through La Place de Bordeaux, The Octavius Old Vine Shiraz 2019 and 2009 can be purchased from specific negotiants worldwide, while Samuel Smith & Son and Negociants New Zealand remain exclusive distributors for Australia and New Zealand.
