Australia’s most popular cuisines revealed

BizCover has crunched more than a year’s worth of Google searches to find out Australia’s most in-demand cuisines.

Japanese is the most popular cuisine across every state except for South Australia, which favours Italian.

Overall, Japanese and Indian were the two most-searched-for cuisines, followed by Chinese, Thai, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Regional areas in New South Wales preferred Italian alongside Geelong, Bendigo, and Cairns, while Indian was the most popular in Toowoomba and Canberra.

Australia’s favourite dishes are vast and include sushi, ramen, tempura, hot dogs, pizzas, biryani, curry, pizza, gelato, fish and chips, and kebabs.

BizCover used Google Data and a seed set of keywords to generate a complete list of 11,826 keywords covering terms relating to dishes and cuisines.

The keyword list was then segmented through targeting to determine search volumes.
