The New South Wales town of Crescent Head will welcome a new boutique hotel to its shores next week.
Sea Sea Hotel is the work of George Gorrow and wife Cisco Tschurtschenthaler of The Slow in Bali, and encompasses a total of 25 rooms.
The hotel opens to the public on 15 November, and will welcome guests to a space inspired by ’70s surf culture.
“A hotel for me is place, not just a bed you use to sleep in while visiting a town,” says Gorrow. “The hotel can be a key experience. Something that allows you to deep dive into the surrounding local culture. We are trying to do this at Sea Sea.”
The hotel’s restaurant Sea Sea Sane Kitchen is headed up by Daniel Medcalf, co-owner of No.35 Kitchen & Bar, who has put together a menu inspired by the local produce of the area.
It’s: “a distinctly Crescent-inspired menu, with a Macleay Valley theme running throughout,” he says. “Its local produce brought together with plenty of care to showcase the best of what the overflowing Macleay Valley food bowl has to offer.”
P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants’ Mike Bennie was engaged to take care of the hotel’s beverage program as well as spearhead the development of Sea Sea’s own wine — Zamiang Natural — while drinks specialist Antonello Arzedi (Scout London and Icebergs Dining and Bar) has put together the mini bar offering.
The hotel will host a series of hospitality takeovers in the coming months, with Icebergs named as the first.
From 23-24 November, Maurice Terzini, Pastry Chef Brittany Smith, and Bar Director Matty Opai will run dinner and lunch services on Saturday and a sunset lunch from 4:30pm on Sunday.
Guests can expect Italian-Australian dishes including spaghetti vongole, koshihikari risotto, and charcoal-roasted Ruby snapper.
The bar team will recreate signature cocktails including the yuzu spritz, the No 8, the No 1476, and the No 917.
Mary’s has been announced as the next pop-up which will take place early next year, with additional 2025 events to be announced in due time.
Bookings are now open for the Icebergs pop-up.
